METHODOLOGIES
In her work with clients, Lydia uses an integrative approach.
Some of the ideas that inform her work come from post-modern theory, more
specifically narrative, solution-focused, feminist (not anti-men) and social justice.
In essence, these ideas situate the clients as experts on their life and the
therapist as co-author in the development of new, preferred stories of themselves and
their relationships with others.
Since 1997, Lydia has become a certified practitioner of EMDR (eye movement
desensitization and reprocessing – see more under
Newsletter
). Lydia has been a dedicated yoga practitioner since 1994 and she uses both
modalities to help clients to reconnect with their past through their body,
cognitions, emotions and acts in freeing ways.
Lydia blends ideas from these and other theories and practices, in a discerning
way and based on her own extended experience, to best fit between the client’s needs
and the most applicable theoretical formulations.
Client's physical and emotional safety is of utmost concern to Lydia. Creating a
collaborative milieu in which exploration of new ways of being and acting in the
world is essential. In this environment, the use of therapeutic letters, rituals,
rehearsals of difference and creation of a community of concern around clients is
possible and exciting (more about these in future Newsletters).
All the above modalities inspire her work with individuals, couples, families,
systems or students/therapists of counseling. Lydia regularly informs herself and keeps up
to date on new ideas and approaches through reading, attending and presenting
workshops and mentoring students.
